Adult Intensive Care

Critical care. Constant compassion.

At St. Tammany Health System’s Adult ICU, we’re always on the job.

At St. Tammany Health System’s Adult Intensive Care Unit, located on the second floor of our Covington hospital, we strive to keep the patient’s best interests in mind, which is why we’re dedicated to ensuring patient rest and privacy during your stay with us.

Realizing that being in intensive care is stressful for patients and their families, our trained staff will listen to concerns and answer questions as best as we can. One way we are able to do that is by having a volunteer available in the ICU waiting room from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before entering the ICU, you should check in with the volunteer.

If you arrive at a time when the volunteer is not present, you can use the ICU waiting room telephone to call the nurses’ station to request entry to your loved one’s room.

Before you visit

The following guidelines have been put in place for the loved ones of our Adult ICU patients.

    Receiving updates

Upon admission to the ICU, patients have the option to designate a representative to receive updates on a patient’s condition. This patient spokesperson will be able to call the patient’s nurse and, upon providing their name and a previously established and their name, retrieve information on the patient’s condition, which may then be passed on to other family members.
