St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Neurology for 2025 in the inaugural such ranking from the financial publication Money.
St. Tammany is one of only 75 hospitals included on the list, and one of just two in Louisiana.
As part of the list, STHS received four stars each for quality and patient ranking. Also figuring into its inclusion on the list was its operation of a Neuro Intensive Care Unit.
According to Money, the hospitals highlighted on the list “excel in providing safe and effective treatments delivered by highly skilled neurologists and neurosurgeons,” in addition to consistently upholding high standards of safety, expertise and a positive patient experience.
The ranking comes three years after an expansion of St. Tammany’s Neuro program, including the addition of dedicated beds in its Neuro unit and in its Neuro ICU. The neuro care team also benefits from a round-the-clock neuro-specific ICU physician and a dedicated neurosciences physical therapist. Taken together, the moves allow for 24-hour neuro-focused intensive care at the hospital.
“Previously, we would have had our neurosurgeons perform surgery and then transfer the patient to … the south shore,” STHS’s Corey Olson said at the time. “Now, we can perform these complex surgeries, and then the patients are being transferred down the hall to the neuro ICU and staying with us, here, close to home, for the extent of their care.
“So, we’re really caring for the patient now from start to finish. They can get top-notch neuro treatment here – and stay on the Northshore.”
