Meet our Family Medicine Residents
A look at the Family Medical Residency Residents:
Our medical residents are committed to upholding the highest standards of care by providing exceptional family medicine services to our community. They undergo an intensive and comprehensive residency program, which includes specialized training and one-on-one mentorship from tenured attending physicians.
This rigorous program equips our residents with the knowledge, skill and experience necessary to effectively address the diverse healthcare needs of our patients, ensuring that they receive quality care and support.
Dr. Alyssa Breedlove received her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She chose to pursue a career in Family Medicine because of her passion for caring for all patients across all life stages – from prenatal care to pediatrics, chronic disease management and geriatrics. Outside of the clinic, she is involved in several professional organizations including ACLM, AAFP, LAFP, AMA and ACOFP because she believes health policy impacts the care of all patients. Outside of medicine, she enjoys watching Clemson football (Go Tigers!); reading romance and thriller novels; hanging out with friends and her pet cat, Benzo; and trying new restaurants and breweries.
Dr. Lauren Carney is originally from Eupora, Mississippi. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Millsaps College and both her master’s degree and her medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Carney chose to practice Family Medicine because of the diverse population of patients it allows her to treat, from newborns to geriatrics. Throughout her childhood, she and her family often visited the Northshore to see family and explore everything the area has to offer. She is excited about furthering her training in our community and forming lasting relationships with her patients. She is a member of AAFP, LAFP and ACLM. Dr. Carney lives in Covington with her husband, Michael, and their beloved Catahoula, Nola Jane. During her free time, she enjoys crocheting, fishing, hunting, cooking and immersing herself in the rich history that this area has to offer.
Dr. Julie Griffin earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. She chose to pursue Family Medicine because it offers the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients, creating a foundation of trust that supports comprehensive, personalized care. To stay current and engaged in her field, Dr. Griffin is an active member of AAFP, LAFP, ACLM, AMA and ACS. Outside of medicine, Dr. Griffin enjoys spending time with her family and attending local festivals.
Dr. Taylor Harvey was born and raised in Covington, Louisiana. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, she went on to receive a master’s degree from Mississippi College and completed her medical education at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Harvey is passionate about the wide scope of care the field provides and the lasting relationships it fosters with patients. A lifelong resident of the area, she is proud and excited to care for the community she calls home. Dr. Harvey is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP), the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Outside of medicine, she enjoys fishing, spending time on the water, cooking, puzzling, and relaxing with her family and two yellow labs.
Dr. Emily Hebert is a proud graduate of LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she earned her medical degree. She is drawn to Family Medicine for its unique combination of clinical variety, continuity of care, and the opportunity to build meaningful, lasting relationships with patients across all stages of life. Her professional interests include women’s health, behavioral health integration and lifestyle medicine. She is passionate about delivering holistic, patient-centered care and is deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected and genuinely cared for. Dr. Hebert is an active member of several professional organizations including the AAFP, LAFP, ACLM, AMA and ACOG. Outside of medicine, she enjoys expressing her creativity through home improvement projects, cooking, baking and exploring new places.
Dr. Robert Mipro graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. As a New Orleans native, he has spent nearly his whole life in Southeast Louisiana. In Family Medicine, he is passionate about lifestyle medicine, nutrition and continuity of care. He is a member of AAFP, LAFP and ACLM. In his free time, he enjoys exercising and being active. After a day at work, you might find him running on the Tammany Trace, at a local gym or practicing yoga.
Dr. Christopher Williams received his medical degree from William Carey College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He enjoys all aspects of Family Medicine and is particularly fond of hospital medicine, lifestyle medicine and nutrition. He is a member of several professional organizations including the AOA, AMA, ACHE, ACLM, LSMS, AAFP, and LAFP. Outside of medicine he enjoys golfing, weightlifting and programming.
Dr. Meghan Castillo graduated from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. She is passionate about women's health and helping women fully understand their health and hormones. Dr. Castillo is excited to incorporate lifestyle medicine into the way she takes care of all her patients. She is a member of ACLM, AAFP, and LAFP. In her free time, she loves to explore new restaurants with her husband. After a day at work, she enjoys reading and crocheting items for her home and family.
Dr. Madison Dronet is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, and is an alumnus of UL Ragin' Cajun. She completed her medical education at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Monroe, LA, as part of the inaugural class of 2024. Her medical interests include women's health, nutrition, osteopathic manual therapy (OMT), and lifestyle medicine. She is dedicated to a holistic, trauma-informed approach to care and acknowledges the impact of social determinants of health on her patients. In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga, gardening, playing music, and taking care of her dog. She has graduated from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Leadership Academy and is a member of AAFP, LAFP, LSMS, ACLM, LOMA, OPAC and AAO.
Dr. Mary Payton Grimmett received her medical degree from William Carey College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. While she enjoys all aspects of family medicine, her passion lies in geriatrics, palliative care, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine. She is a member of several professional organizations including ACLM, AAFP, LAFP, American Osteopathic Association (AOA), AMA, ACOFP, AGS and AAHPM. Outside of medicine, she enjoys cooking for friends or reading a thriller or mystery novel.
Dr. Ashlin Hinojosa earned her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her main interests in family medicine include critical care, emergency medicine, and lifestyle medicine. To advance her professional goals, she is a member of ACLM, LSMS, AAFP, LAFP, AMA, Southern Medical Association and American College of Surgeons. In her personal time, she enjoys taking evening strolls with her husband, trying out new restaurants, spending time with her long-haired dachshund, Rookie and golfing.
Dr. Mohamed Hussein earned his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine. He chose Family Medicine because of its focus on providing comprehensive and continuous care for patients of all ages, as well as the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with families. His particular area of interest within his broader family practice is sleep medicine, as he recognizes its crucial role in overall health and well-being. Dr. Hussein is an active member of AAFP, LAFP, ATA and ACLM, showing his dedication to staying updated with the latest developments in primary care. Outside of medicine, he enjoys cooking, woodworking, and home improvement projects.
Dr. Marlie Giardina Welch hails from the rural town of Amite, Louisiana. She attended medical school at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Monroe, LA, and is a member of the inaugural class of 2024. Dr. Welch finds fulfillment in the variety and diversity of work within family medicine and takes pleasure in developing personal relationships with patients and colleagues. As a Family Medicine physician, she looks forward to addressing not only the medical needs of her community but also to building strong, lasting relationships there. She is a member of AAFP, LAFP, ACLM, AOA, ACOFP and LOMA. Her hobbies include cooking, baking, exercising, and attending farmer’s markets to support small businesses.
