Louisiana will remain under modified Phase 2 coronavirus restrictions until at least Feb. 10, Gov. Jon Bel Edwards announced on Tuesday (Jan. 12).
That represents a 28-day extension of restrictions, which had been set to expire Wednesday.
"The state remains in a precarious place," Edwards said. "Cases and hospitalizations are increasing in every region.”
The extension will maintain 50% occupancy limits for most businesses. Additionally, bars can open to indoor service at 25% capacity but only if their parish has seen two straight weeks of 5% or less positivity.
As of midday Tuesday (Jan. 12, 2021), the Louisiana Department of Health was reporting 352,939 positive and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide since March 9, a one-day increase of 4,705 cases. That includes a total of 17,601 reported to-date across St. Tammany Parish, a one-day increase of 265 cases. Additionally, 3,413 cases have been reported to-date in Washington Parish and 9,800 in Tangipahoa Parish.
Currently, LDH is reporting 2,035 patients hospitalized for COVID statewide, a one-day increase of 53. That includes 60 inpatients at St. Tammany Health System currently under COVID care, unchanged from day-earlier figures.
