With COVID-19 infection rates in St. Tammany Parish on the decline, and as vaccinations become available to more residents, St. Tammany Health System has adjusted its visitor policy.

Please see below for the latest guidelines, effective March 17, 2021.

General visitor guidelines

  • Visiting hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (After 9 p.m., any visitor staying with a patient is expected to remain in the patient’s room.)
  • Visitation for non-COVID adult patients is limited to two persons per patient per day.
  • Visitors must be 12 years or older.
  • Visitors must be free of fever and other symptoms to be admitted to any STHS facility.
  • Visitors must arrive at the facility wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth.
  • Visitors must wear a mask at all times, including while in patient rooms.
  • Visitors must remain in the patient’s room or in the procedure waiting area. (Visitors of non-isolation patients may visit our first-floor coffee shop and our cafeteria.)
  • Visitors must adhere to all policies including social distancing, mask-wearing and hand-washing.
  • Visitors must avoid gathering in common/public areas.
  • Visitors will be asked to return home if they exhibit symptoms of respiratory infection, had a positive COVID test in the past 10 days, have a pending COVID test for symptoms, are unable to wear a mask, or violate any stipulations in this policy.

COVID-19 patient visitor guidelines

  • COVID-positive patients are allowed one visitor at a time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
  • For COVID-positive end-of-life patients: Guidelines will be decided upon on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of nursing personnel.

Other special circumstances

  • Laboring patients: Two support persons are allowed during labor and delivery. Following delivery (post-partum), only one support person may remain with the patient and one additional visitor will be allowed to visit each day. After delivery, siblings of the new baby may be allowed a short visit at the discretion of nursing personnel.
  • Minor child patients (under the age of 18)For patients being treated in the Emergency Department, undergoing surgery or other procedures, or admitted for an inpatient stay (NICU/ PICU/PEDS) a maximum of two parents or caretakers are allowed.

  • Non-COVID end-of-life patients: Spouse or partner, children, parents and siblings may visit together and be present 24/7.
  • Infusion patients: One support person allowed per patient. (Minors may have both parents or guardians present.)
  • COVID positive infusion patients: One support person allowed per patient. (Minors may have both parents or guardians present.)

Note: This visitor policy may be adjusted for patient safety or compassionate reasons in a clinician’s judgment. As we continue to monitor the presence of COVID-19 in our community and adhere to state regulations, this policy is subject to change.
