With COVID-19 numbers increasing in our community, the CDC has classified St. Tammany Parish’s COVID risk level as “HIGH,” the highest designation on its three-point scale.
With that being the case, St. Tammany Health System’s infectious disease experts offer the following recommendations to help local residents keep COVID in check:
Stay up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines and/or boosters.Get tested if you have symptoms. (It’s a good idea to keep at-home tests on hand so you and your loved ones can test quickly and easily.) If you test positive:Contact your primary care physician for COVID care and treatment options.Self-isolate at home. If you must leave, wear a mask in public to protect others.Treat symptoms with over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to help you feel better.Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids to ensure you remain well hydrated. (Fever, vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration which can make you feel worse.)In certain cases, an oral anti-viral, may be appropriate for certain patients. If you feel this is applicable to you, contact your healthcare provider.
