Northshore Heart Walk set for this Saturday, COVID be darned

COVID-19 isn’t slowing down the annual Northshore Heart Walk – although it is changing the way organizers are doing things this year.

The walk, held annually to raise money for American Heart Association programs, will be a virtual walk this year, which means people will be walking in their own neighborhoods or another location of their choosing, in deference to social distancing concerns.

Walk organizers, however, have come up with a number of online enhancements to connect walkers, including downloadable bibs, printable tribute stickers, and Heart Walk frames to decorate walkers’ Facebook profiles.

Walkers also will be able to take in a performance of the National Anthem as well as participate in a walk-day warm-up session on the event Facebook page.

This year’s walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. this Saturday (May 9), but it’s not too late to register. Find out how on the Northshore Heart Walk website.

Anyone who is registered and makes or gets a donation online by noon Friday (May 8) will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. The winner will be picked Friday afternoon.

Your support is important now more than ever. As a result of your support, the AHA can:

  • Develop new CPR guidelines to help rescuers treat cardiac arrest victims with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19.
  • Fast-track research to better understand COVID-19 and its interaction with heart disease and stroke.
  • Work with lawmakers at the federal and state levels to ensure all families have equitable access to care, including guaranteed free coronavirus testing.
  • Locally work with community partners to impact those that need our resources the most.
