Volunteers with Chevron took advantage of a picture-perfect South Louisiana fall day on Thursday (Oct. 22) to help make a treasured resource for local families a little more welcoming.
About 20 volunteers teamed up with St. Tammany Health System’s Construction Management team to give the exterior of the STHS Parenting Center at Koop Drive a fresh coat of paint. The work was done as part of Chevron Humankind, the company’s corporate giving and community volunteering program.
“We’re painting the exterior of the building to help create a warm and welcoming space for the families who come here,” Chevron Logistics Manager Kay Byrd said between coats of paint. “And it’s really nice to be able to roll up our sleeves and help support an organization that does so much for local families.”
For Chevron, Byrd said, the effort reflects a commitment to the community its employees call home.
“Our employees live and work here, and so it’s important to us to show up, to lend a hand and to support organizations like the Parenting Center that do a lot for our local community,” she said.
The partnership extends beyond a fresh coat of paint. Byrd noted that Chevron employees also support STHS initiatives such as the annual Power of Pearl lung cancer walk – for which Chevron serves as presenting sponsor – as well as work at the Healthier Northshore community garden at Magnolia Park in Folsom.
“We really value our partnership with St. Tammany Health System because of the important role that they play in promoting the well-being and the health of our community,” she said.
STHS Director of Community Engagement Anne Pablovich said the appreciation is mutual.
“Chevron has been such a good friend to St. Tammany Health System, and we’re grateful for the many ways its team continues to show up for our community,” Pablovich said. “Whether it’s supporting the Parenting Center or lending a hand with other community initiatives, Chevron demonstrates what a true community partner looks like. We’re fortunate to have them in our corner.”
