As flu season approaches, St. Tammany Health System is encouraging colleagues and community members alike to get their annual flu vaccine and to know where to turn if they become sick.
Flu season generally runs from October through April, making September a good time to get vaccinated. Getting a flu vaccine is one of the best ways to help protect yourself and others from influenza and reduce the risk of serious illness.
If you develop flu-like symptoms, you do not necessarily need to go to the Emergency Department. Before heading to the hospital, call St. Tammany Health System at (985) 898-4001 for guidance on whether your symptoms can be treated in one of our primary care clinics or whether you need emergency care.
St. Tammany Health System offers same-day appointments at its primary care clinics, as well as at its Express Care after hours walk-in clinics. Knowing your options can help you get the care you need while allowing Emergency Department teams to focus on patients requiring emergency treatment.
