COVINGTON – Women’s Choice Award has once again ranked St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital among the Best 100 Hospitals for Patient Experience for 2023.

In addition, the Covington-based health system was singled out for distinction in nine areas. That includes being named a Best Hospital for patient safety, obstetrics, heart care, cancer care, comprehensive breast care, stroke care, minimally invasive surgery, mammography and women’s services.

“These awards truly belong to the whole St. Tammany team,” St. Tammany Health System President and CEO Joan Coffman said. “It also reflects what we have long known: that a top-shelf team leads to satisfied patients – and that in turn leads to quality patient outcomes. That is a big part of why St. Tammany Health System continues to be the premiere healthcare destination for Northshore residents.”

In addition to patients’ willingness to recommend recognized hospitals, the 100 Best honor is based on assessments of a variety of areas, including doctor and nurse communications, responsiveness by staff to requests for help, room and bathroom cleanliness, providing recovery information, explanation of medications, and peacefulness of the room at night.

St. Tammany Parish Hospital, founded in 1954, was recognized in the “medium” hospital and health system category, one of four size-based categories in which the Women’s Choice Award is bestowed.

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, good patient experience positively correlates to disease management, adherence to treatment plans and health outcomes. Providing good patient experience is also good for business, as it results in greater employee morale and satisfaction, thereby reducing turnover and helping recruit top talent. Additionally, it keeps patients loyal, happy and less likely to change providers or systems.

There is also strong correlation between providing good patient experience throughout a patient’s healthcare journey and improved clinical quality measures.

“As one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience, your entire hospital and all of your service lines are lifted up for the exceptional experience you provide – not only for women but for all patients. What a great achievement!” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award.

The methodology used to select STHS as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience is unique in that it evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences.
