With blood supplies dropping to critically low levels, The Blood Center has issued an alert to rally local donors in the hopes of boosting inventories.
Additionally, local schools, church groups, businesses and other community organizations that might be interested in hosting a blood drive are being urged to contact the Blood Center’s Donor Service Department to arrange a visit from the Bloodmobile.
At present, the local need for blood donations continues to outpace donations. All blood types are needed, but Type O, Rh Positive and Negative are in particularly short supply, according to Blood Center Medical Director Dr. Tim Peterson.
Anyone interested in donating can call The Blood Center at (504) 524-1322 or visit www.TheBloodCenter.org for center locations and times.
